The military exercises of Russia’s 201st military base in Tajikistan and Tajikistan’s armed forces were launched an hour ago in Lahore military zone.

The exercises began with a tactical walk and military equipment in the zone.

The exercises will be for one week, practicing military tactics, including operations on the mountains, searching and destroying enemy’s shadow bases.

Around 200 military units, 800 soldiers based in Russia’s 201st military base and Tajik armed forces will be taking part in the exercises.

Russia’s 201st military base is one of the largest military bases outside the country.

The controversial agreement on the extension of 201st military base in Tajikistan was approved in 2013 by the Parliament of Tajikistan.

According to the agreement, the Russian military base will remain in the country until 2042, in total, 49 years since 1993.

Modernizing Tajikistan’s military equipment, providing facilities for Tajik refugees in Russia, duty-free export of fuels to Tajikistan are Russia’s commitments to Tajikistan in return to the presence of Russia’s 201st military base in the country.
