Mirwais hospital of Kandahar, attacked on the 1st day of Eid al-Adha

The biggest hospital called “Mirwais”, located in Kandahar Southern province of Afghanistan, was attacked on the first day of Eid al-Adha by two unknown gunmen, Samim Akhpelwak, governor’s spokesperson said.

According to him, the incident took place today at 11:00 am.

Mr. Akhpelwak added that government officials were the target of the attackers- supposing they will come to visit their patients on the celebration of Eid al-Adha.

Today is the first day of Eid al-Adha.

Sources within the hospital confirmed the killing of one of the two fighters, including one police officer.

The shooting is still ongoing between the security forces and the second fighter.

Mirwais, funded and supported by Red Cross, is one of the biggest hospitals in Kandahar province.

The sick and wounded are brought from remote provinces to Mirwais hospital for treatment.

The treatment of the wounded Taliban fighters in this hospital in the past was a controversial issue.

But hospital officials had said that the people are treated in accordance with humanitarian standards and that they do not consider their political affiliation.
