Ashraf Ghani, the Afghan President said that a considerable progress has been made in the peace talks with Hezb-e Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar- calling the progress a big step towards peace deal between the Afghan government and the Party.

After Eid al-Adha’s prayers in the Arg (presidential palace), Mr. Ghani said, some issues remained unresolved and are soon to be addressed. He also called on all political groups to seriously pursue the peace process.

According to Amin Karim, due to the opposition from a faction in the government, the document for peace deal has not yet been finalized.

On the other hand, President Ghani said, “We can not accept any delay in the process”.

However, experts said, the Taliban are the reason for the continuation of war in Afghanistan, but they also believe that the peace agreement with Hezb-e Islami, led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, is going to have positive outcomes.

Najib Mahmoud, one of the experts said that the Islamic Party’s as a party with the peace process in long term will be useful, but in the short term, he said it will not have any positive effect on the security situation.

It is said that the Vice Presidents, deputies of Executive Office, cabinet members, government officials and foreign guests also attended the Eid prayers.

But Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, former president Hamid Karzai and former jihadi leader Professor Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayyaf were not present at the Eid prayers.
