The two-day meeting between delegates from the United States and the Islamic Emirate in Doha concluded on Sunday after both sides discussed a range of issues.

The State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Sunday that the discussions were focused on security, countering terrorism, human rights and providing safe passage for US nationals and Afghans wishing to leave Afghanistan.

The inclusion of Afghan women in social and political life was also discussed, according to price.

“The US delegation focused on security and terrorism concerns and safe passage for US citizens, other foreign nationals and our Afghan partners, as well as on human rights, including the meaningful participation of women and girls in all aspects of Afghan society,” Price said.

Price marked the discussion as candid and professional adding that the United States will continue providing humanitarian aids and delivering it directly to the in-need people. The US delegation has also said the Islamic Emirate will be judged based on its deeds, not word.

“The discussions were candid and professional with the US delegation reiterating that the Taliban will be judged on its actions, not only its words,” Price said.

The foreign ministry in Kabul said the two-day meeting went well. It welcomed the US offer of humanitarian assistance and said local authorities would facilitate delivery and cooperate with aid groups but said such assistance “should not be linked to political issues”.
