Tajikistan, Pakistan Leaders Stress on Afghan Stability

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon in a phone conversation discussed the situation in Afghanistan, stressing on peace and stability in the county.

The conversation took place on Saturday, according to a statement released by Khan’s office.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan shared with President Rahmon Pakistan’s contribution to efforts for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the statement reads.

The statement said that Khan emphasized on the importance role of the international community in providing essential humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

“The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact with a view to further coordinating their efforts in support of peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the statement added.

However, Dawn, a Pakistani newspaper, quoted some diplomatic sources as saying that Khan tried to step in to ease tensions between the Islamic Emirate and government of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan President had earlier stressed on formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
